Why are there 13 full Moons in 2026?

The 2026 UTC calendar contains thirteen full Moons, with two in May: May 1 and May 31. Under the common calendar-month definition, the second full Moon in one month is called a Blue Moon. This is a calendar label, not a prediction that the Moon will look blue. Local dates can differ at time-zone boundaries.

One full Moon. Different local dates.

For example, the October 2026 full Moon is October 26 at 04:12 UTC. That is just after midnight in New York, but the evening of October 25 in Los Angeles. Sydney and India use later clock times for the same event. You do not need to convert the time yourself: choose a city above.

The selector uses named time zones rather than a fixed offset. That matters when a country changes its clocks. If you are comparing saved results, keep the zone label beside the date. Our time-zone and daylight-saving guide explains the same principle for birth charts.

What does “full Moon” mean?

The full phase occurs when the Moon and Sun are opposite in geocentric ecliptic longitude. The Moon can look nearly full on neighboring nights. An exact phase time is not your local moonrise time, a weather forecast or a guarantee that the Moon is above your horizon.

For a gentle viewing plan, check local weather, choose a safe place with a clear horizon and look around the evenings near the date. The actual rising direction and time depend on your location. To explore more than the full phase, use the Moon phase calculator or the monthly lunar calendar.

Moon phase, Moon sign and Purnima: which do you need?

A phase describes the Sun–Moon geometry. A Moon sign describes the Moon’s zodiac position under the chosen zodiac system. Your birth Moon sign is a separate calculation: try the free Moon sign calculator, or start with a free natal birth chart.

In Indian traditions, a Purnima observance may depend on local tithi and sunrise rules. Do not treat this astronomical full Moon list as a fasting or puja calendar. Explore the daily Panchang and India & Vedic collection for the relevant traditional tools.

Dates, calculations and sources

Annual full Moon times are transcribed from the US Naval Observatory’s 2026 and 2027 phase tables, which publish Universal Time to the minute. Local display uses your browser’s time-zone database. Current phase and illumination use Astronomy Engine in your browser. Outside the tabulated years, the next full Moon is calculated with Astronomy Engine and labeled accordingly. Small rounding or model differences can occur.

NASA’s Moon phase guide explains the lunar cycle. Astrological interpretations are symbolic, not scientifically established predictions. No birth details or location permission are required for this page.
